The Indianapolis Colts’ 2025 season is off to a troubling start, as quarterback Anthony Richardson suffered a dislocated finger during the first quarter of the team’s preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
The injury occurred after a sack by Ravens linebacker David Ojabo. Although Richardson was able to walk off the field, he was promptly ruled out for the rest of the game. He completed 2-of-3 passes for 21 yards before being replaced by veteran Daniel Jones.
For Richardson, the injury adds to an increasingly concerning pattern. Since being drafted fourth overall in 2023, the talented but injury-prone quarterback has struggled to stay on the field. His rookie year lasted just four games due to a concussion and a season-ending shoulder injury. The 2024 season didn’t fare much better—he appeared in 11 games, missing time due to oblique and shoulder issues, while also being benched midseason.
Richardson finished last year with 1,814 passing yards, eight touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a completion rate of just 47.4%. He missed offseason minicamp with another shoulder injury, which led to the Colts signing Jones to push for the starting role.
With Richardson limited to just three pass attempts in the preseason opener, and Jones now getting a closer look, the Colts’ quarterback competition may be shifting. For Richardson, the timing of this latest setback couldn’t be more unfortunate.
