“From Pro Bowl to No Roster: Browns Cut Loose Former Star Diontae Johnson in Stunning Fall from Grace”….

Diontae Johnson’s search for stability in the NFL appears unlikely to continue with the Browns, as the veteran wide receiver is being released today, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero.
Johnson had a chaotic 2024, filled with trades, releases, and attempts to be moved, all of which severely damaged his free agency value. He was traded twice and released twice in the same year, eventually signing a veteran-minimum deal with Cleveland. Now, failing to make the Browns’ 53-man roster marks another setback for the former long-time starter.
No other team offered Johnson a contract this offseason, and since his deal with the Browns carried no guarantees, his release won’t cost the team any dead money. Although Cleveland didn’t bring in any notable veteran receivers, they’re still parting ways with a former 1,000-yard wideout who once thrived with the Steelers.
Johnson’s career took several turns last year, being traded by both the Steelers and Panthers after expressing dissatisfaction. Later, the Ravens suspended him for refusing to re-enter a game, and he failed to carve out a role in Baltimore. A brief stint with the Texans also ended in frustration, and the Ravens claimed him again in a procedural move. Despite all the movement, Johnson’s production was minimal.
With Johnson out, the Browns are likely to lean on Cedric Tillman as a key option alongside Jerry Jeudy, and 2024 fifth-round pick Jamari Thrash could be in the mix. The team also recently signed rookie Isaiah Bond after he was cleared of legal issues. Johnson, now 29, will become a free agent immediately due to his veteran status.
