Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants Micah Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, to finalize and submit the paperwork for a contract extension that Jones says was already agreed upon.
Speaking during an appearance with Michael Irvin on Thursday, Jones said that when he tried to send the finalized terms to Mulugheta, the agent essentially rejected them outright.
“When we tried to send the contract details to the agent, they told us to shove it,” Jones said. “Let me be clear: Micah and I had spoken, and we had come to an agreement on everything—terms, amount, guarantees.”
Jones said that when the team attempted to send those terms over for formal approval, Mulugheta pushed back, insisting the deal was far from done and still needed negotiation—despite Jones believing they’d already reached a consensus and that he had already made concessions.
Jones likened the situation to a child playing both parents to get a better deal, accusing Mulugheta of meddling in an effort to squeeze more out of the team. He made it clear he has no intention of renegotiating what he believes was already a finalized agreement.
“As far as I’m concerned, the deal’s done,” Jones said. “The agent just needs to handle the paperwork. We’re ready. The money, the duration, the guarantees—we already settled all that.”
With the Cowboys wrapping up their preseason against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night, the contract standoff with Parsons remains the team’s biggest unresolved issue.
While some believe Jones should have gone through Mulugheta from the start, avoiding this public back-and-forth, doing so might have made for a less dramatic lead-up to the season.
