DENVER — The San Francisco Giants may be without a key rotation piece for the remainder of the 2025 season, a setback for a team aiming to finish above the .500 mark.
Right-hander Landen Roupp, who has started 22 games this season, is expected to miss the rest of the regular season due to left knee inflammation. He was placed on the injured list on August 22, and manager Bob Melvin shared the update ahead of the team’s seven-day, six-game road trip in Colorado.
“I think he’s probably done,” Melvin said of Roupp’s chances to return. “We’re not going to rush it. He probably wants to come back, but we’ll have to see how it goes. Getting him back on the mound before the offseason could still be valuable. But for now, it’s unlikely.”
This is Roupp’s second IL stint in 2025. Earlier in August, he was sidelined with right elbow inflammation. After a brief return, he made two rough starts, allowing 10 runs and 10 hits, including three homers, over 5.1 innings in losses to the Tigers and Padres.
These struggles stood in stark contrast to his impressive July, where he recorded a 1.80 ERA across 20 innings in four outings. Prior to that, Roupp posted a 3.27 ERA over his first 19 starts, showing steady growth throughout the year.
Unfortunately, the momentum he built this season may have to be paused until 2026, ending what had been a promising campaign. Roupp, 26, had earned the fifth starter spot coming out of spring training, making the setback all the more disappointing.
