Former Major League Baseball All-Star and World Series winner Mark Teixeira has officially entered the political arena.
The 45-year-old has announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives, aiming to represent Texas’s 21st Congressional District. He’s seeking to replace current Representative Chip Roy, who has decided to run for Texas Attorney General instead of pursuing re-election.
Running as a Republican, Teixeira has expressed strong support for former President Donald Trump’s “America First” platform.
“As a proud Texan and lifelong conservative, I’m committed to fighting for the values that make our state strong and our nation exceptional,” Teixeira said in a campaign statement. “Winning takes teamwork, and I’m ready to stand up for President Trump’s agenda, protect Texas families, and champion individual freedoms.”
Teixeira enjoyed a 14-season MLB career, playing for the Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and New York Yankees. A three-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove recipient, he led the American League in home runs and RBIs in 2009—the same year he won the World Series with the Yankees.
Since retiring in 2016, Teixeira has remained involved in baseball, including serving as the hitting coach for the National League team in the 2024 All-Star Futures Game.
