There’s no question who leads the Green Bay Packers’ running back group. After racking up 1,329 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 301 carries during the 2024 season, Josh Jacobs is poised to remain the centerpiece of the Packers’ ground game heading into 2025.
Jacobs wasn’t just productive—he was dependable. In his first year with Green Bay, he played in all 17 regular-season games plus their lone playoff appearance, proving his durability.
Fans can expect to see the 27-year-old former Alabama standout lining up alongside quarterback Jordan Love in Week 1 of the regular season, when the Packers host the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. However, don’t be surprised if Jacobs doesn’t see the field during this Saturday’s preseason opener against the New York Jets—after all, there’s little reason to risk anything in a meaningless exhibition.
Jacobs says he’ll be ready when his number is called.
Speaking Thursday, he noted that head coach Matt LaFleur hasn’t shared any specifics yet about his potential involvement in the Jets game. Still, Jacobs is open to getting in a few snaps to shake off the rust.
Via Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers’ official site, Jacobs commented:
“We’ll see how it’ll play out. (LaFleur) hasn’t really told us what we’re gonna do. But I think I’ll get a couple hits, get a little feel of it and be cool.”
The Packers will continue their preseason with a road game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2, followed by a matchup with the Seattle Seahawks before kicking off the regular season.
