The contract standoff between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys has intensified, with no resolution in sight—and team owner Jerry Jones doesn’t appear optimistic it’ll be settled before the season kicks off.
When asked Tuesday during training camp whether he believes Parsons will suit up for the Cowboys’ season opener against the Eagles on Sept. 4, the 82-year-old owner was characteristically candid.
“No, absolutely not. A big part of that is his decision,” Jones said. “How would I know that? I’m just saying. But I’m urgent.”
Despite still being under contract and set to earn just over $24 million in the final year of his rookie deal, Parsons has limited leverage. However, he could escalate the situation by skipping Week 1 and forfeiting a game check—or potentially pushing harder for a trade before the season begins.
The situation turned even more contentious last Friday when Parsons publicly demanded a trade, adding fuel to an already tense back-and-forth with the Jones family.
While a trade seems highly unlikely and many media insiders still expect a deal to materialize, the two sides currently appear entrenched. Jones’ unwillingness to guarantee Parsons’ presence for the season opener only underscores the growing uncertainty.
