The Green Bay Packers are approaching the deadline to finalize their 53-man roster, and tough decisions lie ahead.
One player vying for a spot is tight end John FitzPatrick, who rejoined the team in April on a one-year, $1.5 million deal. Originally brought in by Green Bay in 2024 after a stint on the Falcons’ practice squad, FitzPatrick appeared in nine games last season. However, his on-field impact was minimal—he played just 32% of offensive snaps and recorded one catch for two yards.
Now 25, FitzPatrick is battling for a backup role behind Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave. He made a strong impression during a recent practice, hauling in a sliding catch from Malik Willis and later scoring a touchdown.
FitzPatrick hasn’t been shy about how much returning to Green Bay means to him.
“I always wanted to be back here,” he told Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers’ official website. “I really love it here. I love the people here. When the opportunity presented itself, it was really a no-brainer. It was nice just being able to go through the whole offseason program. The OTAs and the lifting, all the meetings and practices—I think that has just helped me a ton.”
A sixth-round pick by Atlanta in 2022 (213th overall), FitzPatrick continues to work hard to earn his place on the Packers’ final roster.
